filter the sun

Hi There

Could someone advise me on what filter/s to use for a stop motion animation of a sunrise and sunset.
I plan to shoot using a high zoom, so the sun is large, Id like quite cloudy/stormy look, so enhance the clouds.
Also I dont want to wreck my eyesight.
Is a polarising filter enough?
Would that also bring out the clouds?

Have you thought about using neutral density filters along with the polarizer? The combination may be just what you need.
